This ruling, if it stands, guarantees single payer (government owned and run) healthcare. The individual mandate was a brief respite for the insurance companies to survive for a while (the fine or tax for non-compliance was too low to buy much time). So with the requirement to sell insurance to cover pre-existing (don’t you love the redundancy of that term?) conditions, everyone can wait until they are admitted to the hospital before they buy coverage, and the only sane thing insurance companies can do or their investors is to divest themselves of their health insurance line prior to being put in that cage. So I don’t expect the current government to put their heart into their appeal to he Supreme Court.
‘Never allow a crisis to go to waste,’ White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel told the New York Times right after the election.
