“Responding to the massacre [at the Luby’s cafeteria], the Texas Legislature in 1995 passed a shall-issue gun law, which requires that all qualifying applicants be issued a Concealed Handgun License. . . .

“The law had been campaigned for by Dr. Suzanna Hupp, who was present at the massacre where both of her parents were shot and killed. She later expressed regret for obeying the law by leaving her firearm in her car rather than keeping it on her person due to the fact that it could have cost her chiropractic license.

“She testified across the country in support of concealed handgun laws, and was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1996.”

Wendell Goler of FOX let a gun-grabber strategist lie today about the Ft. Hood Massacre when he used that event as “proof” that “good guys with guns” doesn’t work. As with most leftists not planning to use military service as a springboard to the ruling class. the gun-grabber has enough disdain of the military to not even do his homework.Fort Hood personnel are not allowed to carry weapons on the base. Military weapons are only used for training or by base security, and personal weapons must be kept locked away by the provost marshal.

David Gregory mocked the NRA’s Wayne LaPierre for proposing that armed guards be at every school in America. But the NBC host seems to have no problem with 11 armed guards protecting his kids everyday at Sidwell Friends where they attend school in Washington and that number does not include the Secret Service detail for Obama’s daughters who attend the same school. Not only are they armed with fully automatic weapons but I bet in one of those Yukons there resides a hand-held anti-aircraft missile.

But having one armed trained police officer in each school is entirely inappropriate for the peasants. Our elected and media elites agree with the King of Id, “The peasants are revolting!” They mean it one way, but they might find the peasants mean it another.

I have been trying to come up with a very short easily remembered summation of the differences between the major schools of economic thought. If you like it pass it along.

There are two major schools of economic thought, the London and the Austrian. The London School is hundreds of theories addressing how political power can manage an economy. The Austrian School explains how the actual human interaction that comprises an economy works.

Were you disgusted by news coverage immediately following the death of Jovan Belcher?

Belcher was a linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs who shot his girlfriend – and mother of his three-month-old daughter – dead after an argument. Belcher then drove to the Arrowhead Stadium practice facility to profusely thank general manager Scott Pioli and head coach Romeo Crennel for their roles in his career. He reportedly said, “I love you, bro” before shooting himself.

Fans and sportswriters tried to make sense of the Belcher violence, and with the suicide of San Diego Charger Junior Seau earlier this year in mind, they grasped at common straws that might tie the two acts together. But what separates Belcher from Seau – and other depressed athletes who’ve struggled with the fallout from a career of hard hits and head injuries – is that Junior’s plight didn’t end in the barbaric murder of his girlfriend and the orphaning of a three-month-old baby.

Jovan Belcher’s suicide might have forced the question as to whether or not football has become too violent and punishing for its player, but killing his girlfriend elevates the action to something that cannot be justified by appeals to celebrity culture and pop psychology.

Or even readily explained by scientific research suggesting traumatic injury causes permanent brain damage and behavioral problems. Killing your girlfriend is not a “behavioral problem”, it is a horrific, evil, cowardly act that is morally wrong to try to either explain or excuse through the science of battered brains.

Yet everyone seemed to want to blame Belcher’s actions on something else. At CNN, former Democratic congressional candidate and Real World participant Kevin Powell talked about the problems of super-macho culture and the ready availability of guns. Bob Costas lost his nut when he turned the Jovan Belcher tragedy into an anti-gun rant. Costas has fallen further off the rails than Powell if he thinks a gun-free Belcher home would have also shown an absence of violence or murder.

Instead of immediately reaching for our nearest ideological hobby horse, let’s stipulate an ugly truth: Sometimes people are bad.

Brain injury did not pull the trigger that blew away both of Zoey Belcher’s parents one horrible Saturday morning. Jovan Belcher did, and for that he will rightly be remembered not as a big man, but as a bad man.

From: Maxine Waters Appointed Top Democrat on House Financial Service Committee

On Tuesday, House Democrats unanimously selected Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) to be the top Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee.

Waters will be the ranking member on the committee that deals with banking issues. Last year, the House Ethics Committee investigated Waters, one of the most partisan members of the Congressional Black Caucus, for allegedly using her position in Congress to bail out a bank in which her husband owned $350,000 worth of stock.

The Ethics Committee cleared Waters of any wrongdoing, because it could not find “clear and convincing evidence” that Waters used her influence and position to directly help OneUnited Bank secure a $14 million federal bailout from the TARP program. Six members actually recused themselves from the investigation.

The Ethics Committee did send Waters’ grandson and chief of staff, Mikael Moore, a letter of reproval for his role in taking “certain actions on behalf of OneUnited when he knew or should have known” of his family’s financial interest.” Waters’ office aggressively lobbied the Treasury Department in 2008 to secure bailout funds for OneUnited Bank.

Moore told the committee he had no idea his grandfather owned stock in OneUnited Bank and said it was an “impossible standard” for him to have to find out whether his family members potentially owned stock in banks for which his office was trying to secure bailout funds.

Melanie Sloan, head of the left-leaning Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics (CREW), said then that Moore’s employment in his grandmother’s office “set the stage for potential problems.”

“In light of this case, perhaps now the Administration Committee will add grandchildren to the list of relatives members may not employ,” she said.

Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) will chair the House Financial Services Committee, and Waters said she hoped to “reconcile our visions” in the next Congress. The two do not agree on much. Hensarling wants to reform Dodd-Frank, while Waters wants to strengthen the legislation that is crippling small banks with regulation.

Waters also said she intends top push for “housing finance reform” and a financial system that “facilitates economic opportunity and wealth creation for all.”

“Housing finance reform, in particular, will be crucial to ensuring the long-term success and stability of our economy,” Waters said. “I believe we need a financial system that facilitates economic opportunity and wealth creation for all, and I stand ready to work with my colleagues towards that goal.”

Dan Mitchell Discussing Dishonest Budget Numbers with John Stossel – YouTube.

The crooks in DC have created a system that allows them to claim they’re cutting the budget when the burden of government spending actually is rising.

This sleazy system is designed in part to deceive the American people, and the current squabbling over the fiscal cliff is a good example. The President claims he has a “balanced approach” that involves budget cuts, but look at the second chart at this link and you will see that he’s really proposing bigger government.

This dishonest approach also was used by the President’s Fiscal Commission and last year’s crummy debt limit deal was based on this form of fiscal prevarication.

Here are some key excerpts from a Wall Street Journal editorial exposing this scam.

President Obama and John Boehner are playing by the dysfunctional Beltway rules. The rules work if you like bigger government, but Republicans need a new strategy, which starts by exposing the rigged game of “baseline budgeting.” …numbers have no real meaning because they are conjured in the wilderness of mirrors that is the federal budget process. Since 1974, Capitol Hill’s “baseline” has automatically increased spending every year according to Congressional Budget Office projections, which means before anyone has submitted a budget or cast a single vote. Tax and spending changes are then measured off that inflated baseline, not in absolute terms. …Democrats designed this system to make it easier to defend annual spending increases and to portray any reduction in the baseline as a spending “cut.” Chris Wallace called Timothy Geithner on this “gimmick” on “Fox News Sunday” this week, only to have the Treasury Secretary insist it’s real. …in the current debate the GOP is putting itself at a major disadvantage by negotiating off the phony baseline. …If Republicans really want to slow the growth in spending, they need to stop playing by Beltway rules and start explaining to America why Mr. Obama keeps saying he’s cutting spending even as spending and deficits keep going up and up and up.

You probably won’t be surprised to learn that other nations rely on this crooked system, most notably the United Kingdom, which supposedly is imposing “savage” cuts even though government spending keeps rising (and they fooled Paul Krugman, though he seems to make a habit of misreading foreign fiscal and economic data).
