“If we knew everything then that we know now, one week after it happened, I think that would have been really devastating to [Obama’s reelection] campaign,” says former CBS reporter, Sharyl Attkisson, referencing the 2012 Benghazi terrorists attacks. Recently revealed White House emails suggest that the Obama administration may have attempted to mislead the American public by placing the blame on an Internet video and not Islamic terrorists, which would have raised questions about Obama’s foreign policy strategy.

Attkisson, an award winning investigative reporter, was one of the few journalists who continued pursuing the Benghazi story long after many in the main stream media lost interest. According to Attkisson, her bosses at CBS wanted her to drop the story. As a result, she left CBS, her employer for two decades, this past March over what she claims is “liberal bias” at the network and a lack of serious devotion to investigative reporting.

She goes on to say that many in her field are frustrated by the decline of hard-hitting investigative reporting endemic at all networks and not just CBS. The congealing of corporate, news, and political interests at networks have made investigative journalism a relic of the past.

“As one whistleblower put it to me: things have never been worse for people who try to speak the truth inside the government about illegalities and wrong doing. In their view, and I tend to agree, every administration is more clamped down and closed than the one before it. And the next one starts at the finishing point. It’s very hard to make it go backwards. There are rules being implemented now against journalists and the type of work that we do that I think will be very hard to unwind.”

Attkisson sat down with Reason TV’s Nick Gillespie to discuss her reporting on Benghazi, Fast and Furious, and the decline of investigative journalism in America.

“Legal encapsulation is not effectively possible,” declares Cody Wilson of Defense Distributed, makers of the world’s first gun made via 3D printing technology. “So it’s fun to kind of challenge the state to greater and greater levels of its own hyper-statism.”

Last year, Wilson and crew unveiled The Liberator, a plastic pistol they created on a 3D printer that fired a shot heard around the world. Then they put the 3D-printing files (or CADs) up on the Internet for free. To folks interested in cutting-edge technology and decentralized experiments in living, Wilson’s gun symbolized an age of uncontrollable freedom. To lawmakers, it symbolized a threat that moved faster than, well, a speeding bullet. The State Department, in fact, shut down Defense Distributed’s ability to disseminate the gun files on the Internet, claiming the nonprofit was violating federal rules about exporting munitions.

A self-declared crypto-anarchist, the 26-year-old Wilson is fighting the situation in court—and relishing every minute of his battle with the government.

While he’s aggressively challenging restrictions on 3D-printed guns, Wilson is also working on an innovative Bitcoin project called Dark Wallet, which would further anonymize financial transactions on the Web, and a book intended to inspire a new generation of digital libertarians.

Reason TV’s Todd Krainin sat down with Wilson at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas.

The Philosophy of Liberty

The Philosophy of Liberty The PoL is a flash animation based of what is now the epilogue of Ken Schoolland’s book, “The Adventures of Jonathan Gullible.” It began in 1992 as a Russian translation of the book was being published. The publisher Dmitry Kostygin informed Ken that few people in Russia even knew what ‘property’ or ‘taxes’ were, and Ken responded by writing an introduction that described the philosophy of his book. It became so popular that it now appears as the epilogue in every language edition 40+ and counting, and it inspired Kerry Pearson aka Lux Lucre to turn it into a flash animation. Kerry passed away in 2004, however the animation has continued on, being translated into numerous new languages and converted to video to make it as easy to share with as many people as possible.

If you like The PoL, please share it with others. Make a DVD and play it for friends and family, submit it to video streaming sites, or share it any other way you can think of!

\”I kind of like the way Ron Paul thought. I\’m a libertarian, no question about it, just like John Stossel,\” says Dennis Hof, owner of the Moonlite Bunny Ranch brothel, famously featured on HBO\’s Cathouse. In 2008 and 2012, he began raising money to donate to the Ron Paul presidential campaign under the banner \”Pimpin\’ for Paul.\”

\”States rights, make your own decisions. [Paul] doesn\’t want the Feds dealing with the states, and that\’s what Nevada\’s all about,\” he says, in this Reason TV excerpt.

The full statement is as follows:

The death of Trayvon Martin was a tragedy. Not just for his family, or for any one community, but for America. I know this case has elicited strong passions. And in the wake of the verdict, I know those passions may be running even higher. But we are a nation of laws, and a jury has spoken. I now ask every American to respect the call for calm reflection from two parents who lost their young son. And as we do, we should ask ourselves if we’re doing all we can to widen the circle of compassion and understanding in our own communities. We should ask ourselves if we’re doing all we can to stem the tide of gun violence that claims too many lives across this country on a daily basis. We should ask ourselves, as individuals and as a society, how we can prevent future tragedies like this. As citizens, that’s a job for all of us. That’s the way to honor Trayvon Martin.

Since the jury decided that the tragedy was a result of justifiable self defense, the “future tragedies” will not be the attacker but the attacked. Does that sound better to anyone other than attackers, muggers, rapists, thieves and/or wannabe tyrannical government?

Yeah I know adding government was redundant to the prior description of what government has become, but, I’m going to leave it there.

As a veteran and long time (since 1978) Libertarian whose brand of libertarianism was relabeled as Neolibertarian (a description I heartedly embraced) by the crew at QandO back in 2004, I believe that Sarah-Cuda just laid out why we need a strong revolt from the self-privileged, self-entitled, thieves, poltroons and con-men of the political class.

On America’s News HQ, Sarah Palin criticized both Republicans and Democrats who “caved” in to President Obama’s “wishes to legalize illegal aliens.”

Palin slammed the bill and its supporters, saying “it’s a matter of a lack of principle and respect the law.” She even called it a “betrayal” to law-abiding Americans and legal immigrants. “It doesn’t solve any of the problems that we may have with immigration.”

When it comes to NSA leaker Edward Snowden, Palin said he needs to face the consequences of his actions if he did indeed violate the law. “We are still a nation that respects the rule of law, right, even though amnesty bill just sort of thwarted all that.”
